Halloween Mason Jars Tutorial

When I found this craft, I knew immediately I had to try it out.  It was definitely too cute to pass up!  And besides, I recently came in contact with some mason jars, so hey, it was meant to be!  :)  Didn’t they turn out cute though??

  • 4 mason jars (two different sizes)
  • Orange, green, purple, white, and black tissue paper
  • black cardstock
  • Mod podge
  • scissors
  • white Christmas lights (100 bulb strand)

Start by cutting the tissue paper into strips; make sure to measure the height of your jars and cut the tissue paper strips to that size (measure just from the rim of the jar down to the bottom, underneath).

Paint Mod Podge, a section at a time, onto the outside of the jar. lay down a strip of paper and smooth it down well. Then, move onto the next section until you get the jar covered. Don’t worry if there are wrinkles or if they are not straight.  It will not matter when it dries.  I would also go back through and paint some Mod Podge on the outside of the tissue paper to make sure the jar is smooth when it dries; but do be careful to now tear the paper when it’s damp.  Once the vertical piece are done, place another piece around the rim of the glass.

Next, cut faces out of the black cardstock to fit your liking.  Use Mod Podge again to attach the faces to the jars.  Don’t forget to paint on top of the face parts to  ensure that it’s secure!

Let the jars dry for about 12-24 hours.  Then place your Christmas lights inside!
