“Hi, I’m the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you…”
I read this book shortly after I finished Eleanor and Park and I do have to say that I enjoyed it a great deal. There were a few time however, that the story tend to be rather slow and you just wanted to nudge the characters along a bit. LOL :) But over all, I think it was definitely a cute, modern day story. While the timeline was bout 10-20 years ago, you can still totally picture it happening today.
The story takes place in the early to mid 90s among a newsroom involving pals Beth and Jennifer. Throughout the book we read the gossip between these two besties that concern their their romance, life, job, etc. Beth is dealing with her marriage-phobic boyfriend (Chris) and Jennifer is dealing with her baby-mania-stricken husband (Mitch). However, what they don’t know is that the newly hired computer guy, Lincoln, is in-charge with weeding out all things unnecessary or pornographic among the newroom…and their conversations continuously pop up within his system. So what does Lincoln do? Read their messages of course! Being the nice guy that Lincoln is, he does let the girls slide on their inappropriate office mail as he slowly finds himself getting hooked on their conversations. Their literally like a drug for him that he cannot escape and before he knows it, he’s falling head over heels for the unlucky-in-love Beth.
Is this creepy? Yes. LOL Very much so, but yet the story keeps you pulled in as you wonder how it’s going to develop each time Lincoln and Beth cross paths. Will Beth be understanding when, if, she finds out? Will Lincoln have enough guts to tell Beth what he’s been doing? What would you do if you found out that someone knew so much about you because he/she was reading your personal emails to your work pal?
This is definitely an easy read. I think I pretty much read it on a 6-7 hour car ride to Chicago…and something that I think you all should check out!
