Deepwater Horizon movie review

Deepwater Horizon movie review

I had wanted to see this movie for quite some time as I really enjoy Mark Wahlberg action movies.  :)  For those who may not be familiar with Deepwater Horizon, it is a historical drama about the explosion aboard the offshore oil-drilling rig which occurred on April 20, 2010. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Hudson, Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, and John Malkovich.

Deepwater Horizon recounts the series of egregious errors made by the managers and crew members of the oil rig that ultimately led the newly drilled oil well to blow out initially engulfing the rig and its crew with a towering geyser of mud, rocks, cement, and other material from deep beneath the ocean floor. Along with the high-pressure fountain of slurry came methane gas, which eventually ignited into a massive fireball that shot thousands of feet into the air; as a result, eleven of the Deepwater Horizon’s 126 crew members perished.

The movie focuses solely on what happened that night. Mike Williams (Wahlberg) and Jimmy Harrell (Russell) are the two main protagonists through which events unfold. However, the movie does point fingers directly towards BP’s senior managers who ordered that shortcuts be taken in order to get the drilling project back on schedule.

The effects are amazing, the story is insane, and it’d definitely a movie you’ll want to check out!
