Years ago my mother had purchased some “lotion bars” at a local craft show and just loved them, but didn’t know how to make them herself. And then there was Pinterest! :) I have to say that this is SUCH and easy thing to make and it’s actually kind of fun…not to mention that your kitchen will smell amazing while you’re making them! :) Our neighbors will be getting some for Christmas this year!
One thing to keep in mind that there are three parts to this project:
- Use 1 part, by weight, oil (coconut, almond, or olive)
- Use 1 part, by weight, butter (shea or cocoa butter)
- Use 1 part, by weight, beeswax
The recipe that I have here contains the materials that I used, and you can adjust them to your liking.
Lotion BarsPrint Recipe
- 4.5 oz olive oil
- 4.5 oz. beeswax (pellets)
- 4.5 oz. cocoa butter (in the raw form)
In a sauce pan, on low heat, melt olive oil and beeswax together; do make sure that you take your time and keep an eye on things so they do not burn.
Once melted, add in the cocoa butter to melt (still keeping heat on low and stirring often).
After everything is melted pour liquid into a silicone molds by using a plastic spoon.
It's winter time here and it took about a couple of hours for the bars to fully harden.
Once hardened, pop them out of the molds.
